NET NUST Entry Test Overview:
The NET is conducted four times a year, in December, February, April, and June-July. Each candidate gets four attempts for each field, and multiple fields can be tested in each attempt. The NET series, consisting of four attempts, considers the highest marks achieved across all attempts during the admission process. While you have the option to give only one NET, aiming for all four is advisable for a maximum score. Unlike MDCAT, where a high score in the first attempt may secure admission, NUST considers the aggregate of all attempts.
Admissions occur annually in September, meaning even if you score a perfect 200/200 in NET 1 (December), admission will be granted in the following September. This is particularly important for improvers who should be prepared for a potential gap year.
Test centers are located in Islamabad, Karachi, Gilgit, and Quetta. Computer-based tests in Islamabad and Quetta are recommended, as paper-based tests in Karachi or Gilgit may lead to lower scores.
The fee for one NET admission test in 2024 is 5000. Registration is done through the NUST admission website, allowing candidates to select a date. Registering early offers more flexibility in choosing later test dates.

NUST also offers financial aid based on need. The registration form includes an option to indicate the need for financial aid. Fill out the financial aid form after completing the registration form; this needs to be done only once throughout the year. Failure to fill the form directly means it won’t be available until the next NET, so it’s crucial to complete it in the first NET.

Fields and Merits:
NUST provides a range of fields with varying merit requirements. For Computer Science/BBA/Software, an 80% aggregate is required for the first list, while fields like Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Environmental Sciences require a 72% aggregate for the first list.
In Social Sciences, fields like BBA, ACF, LLB, Economics, Public Administration, and Tourism have their own merit criteria. The merit for BBA and ACF is the highest at 80%, followed by Economics and PA at 78%.
For O/A Level Students:
O/A Level students need equivalence from IBCC to enter NUST. The formula for calculating the aggregate is 10% (SSC Marks/total marks) + 15% (FSC marks/total) + 75% (NET marks/200).
Pre-Medical Students:
Pre-medical students can apply for Computer Science, Social Sciences (BBA, etc.), MBBS, Data Science/Biotechnology (same test), and Artificial Intelligence (syllabus not yet disclosed by NUST).

Engineering Test: 80 MCQs Advanced FSC Mathematics, 60 Physics, 30 Chemistry, 20 English, and 10 IQ.
Computer Science: For ICS students, 80 Maths, 50 Physics, 40 Computer, 20 English, and 10 IQ. For pre-medical students, it includes 60 MCQs Bio, 60 Physics, 50 Chemistry, 20 English, and 10 IQ.
Data Science: For pre-engineering and ICS students, their engineering test is sufficient. For pre-medical students, it’s the same as biotech or CS, including 60 MCQs Physics, 60 Bio, 50 Chem, 20 Eng, and 10 IQ.
Social Sciences: (BBA, ACF, LLB, Economics, Public Administration, Tourism): 80 Maths (Basic Quantitative Mathematics), 80 English, and 40 IQ.
Applied Sciences: (BS Maths, Chem, Phy): Separate tests or the same engineering test, depending on preference.

Aggregate and Fees:
The aggregate for Biotech is 75% in the first list, while LLB requires a 75% aggregate in the first list. CS/SE requires an 80% aggregate in the first list, and BBA also requires an 80% aggregate in the first list. MBBS merit is yet to be disclosed as it is a recently introduced field.

Fees of Every Field:
For Social Sciences/Architecture, it’s about 2 lakhs per semester plus some licensing fee to Harvard every year. For Engineering/Biotech/Applied Sciences, it’s approximately 1 lakh 50 thousand per semester. Additional fees like hostel rent are around 36k per semester, and mess fees are 14k per month. If you receive financial aid from NUST, it only covers tuition fees, not hostel rent or mess.
Merit List and Merit Numbers:
The merit list is released every year in September, preceded by the display of Merit Numbers. These numbers represent your position, with Merit 1 indicating the top scorer across all NET tests. The merit fluctuates annually, emphasizing the importance of achieving the highest possible aggregate.
